Middle TN Genealogical Society Bimonthly Meeting

Upcoming Genealogy Event: Saturday, May 19, 2018 @ 1:00 p.m., Middle TN Genealogical Society Presents our bimonthly meeting. Location: *Please note the temporary location change* TN State Library and Archives, 403 7th Avenue N, Nashville, TN 37243 Speaker of the Day: “The Archive Lady," Melissa Barker, who is also serving as judge for the MTGS Writer’s Award for best article in our society's quarterly publication, The Middle Tennessee Journal of Genealogy and History. Topic: “Loose Records in an Archive: What Are They?” Melissa Barker is a Certified Archives Manager and Houston County, Tennessee Archivist. She is a Professional Genealogist who lectures, teaches, and writes about researching in archives and records preservation. She writes the popular blog, A Genealogist in the Archives. She is Reviews Editor for the Federation of Genealogical Societies (FGS) magazine, FORUM. Her bi-weekly advice column, The Archive Lady, can be viewed at abundantgenealogy.com. Her articles also appear in her local newspaper, The Stewart-Houston Times, in the column , From the Archives. **NEW - DNA Chat session after the meeting: Dr. Dave Dowell, MTGS Board Member and author of NextGen Genealogy: The DNA Connection, will host the inaugural DNA Chat following the May 19th membership meeting in the TSLA Auditorium. Please bring your recent DNA success stories and your genetic genealogy questions to share with the group. Dr. Dowell will facilitate as a “guide on the side” rather than as a “sage on the stage.” We will also discuss whether or not to continue these chat sessions, and if so in what format. ** This program is free of charge and refreshments will be served following the meeting. We hope that you will join us and become a member of an active genealogy society. TSLA is open from 8 to 4:30 Saturdays. Come early and stay late on May 19 for a day of Genealogy!
