This actor’s workshop consists of some of the elements essential to the appreciation and performance of Shakespeare’s plays. Subjects covered include scansion—the basics of blank verse; tricks of the trade—insights and techniques for the clever actor; voice production and breathing; research—historical, geographical, personal, and mythological; vocabulary and etymology; imagery, ideation, and characterization; pithy observations on Shakespeare and his theatre. The second session will give the actors an opportunity to prepare selected Shakespearean material using techniques learned in the first session.
